Here's a cheap recipe to make..Southern style Beans and Cornbread.  If you don't want to eat meat, or can't, try this.  Beans are a meat substitute, full of protein.  I make mine with pinto beans and ham hocks, but you can leave out the ham, if you want.  Serve over rice and you have a meal for 4, for less then $5, even with the ham!

I make my cornbread with buttermilk, but you can use regular milk or whipping cream for a different taste.
